How do I get people to visit my web site? Getting people to visit your web site (marketing):Our services include basic registration of your site with search engines. We will also employ every method we know about that will allow search engines to find your site by key words and content. Additionally, you might consider a "pay per click" keyword and/or content advertising program with Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. We can provide this service for an additional fee. Another strategy is to exchange links with other web sites that have related content. Link exchanges can boost your ranking with some search engines and they provide alternate ways for people to become aware of your web site. We provide an initial link from our web site to yours on our Portfolio page. Once the site is published, you should tell everyone such as business clients, friends, family members and organization members about the site. Put the address of the web site in your advertising and on your business cards and stationary. Include it with your signature on your emails. What you need for a web site:You do not need to have anything in order to have a web site. However, you will probably want to have a computer that has internet access and email. Then you will be able to view your site and receive information from it and about it. If you are a business or organization, you probably already have a computer set up. What you need to get started:You will need to decide what the main purpose of your site is, whether providing information and news, signing up new members, getting orders from customers, etc. You will need to decide on your Domain Name. The Domain Name must be unique on the internet so you may have to choose more than one before you find one that can be registered. Determine who your audience will be. Do you want to communicate with businesses, consumers, potential donors, people with similar interests, or your family? You will need to gather graphic images of your logo, photographs and text that will be the content of your site. Our services include scanning photographs and logos if you do not have them in digital format. Look at other sites on the web to help you think about how you want the pages laid out and what color scheme you prefer. If you have a logo, it can help you choose a color scheme. What if I don't have a logo or graphics? If you need to create a logo and other graphics for you web site, there are many inexpensive and free web sites to help you create a simple logo or download clip-art and other graphics. We can help you access these and find or create what you need. If you require a more elaborate logo, we can recommend some companies to help you create your professional look. What is a Domain Name? The Domain Name is the site name or address. For example, the Domain Name of this web site is websforus.com. The Domain Name may only contain letters and numbers and dashes (-). The Domain Name is used to find your site on the internet using an URL (Universal Resource Locator) such as www.websforus.com. What is web hosting?People have to be able to find and display the pages of your web site. A web server "hosts" your pages and lets the internet address of your pages be known through a Domain Name Server. When a user requests your web site using the URL (see What is a Domain Name?), the web server sends or "serves" your home page to the user's computer. Most web sites are small enough to be hosted by a shared web server that hosts many web sites and is relatively inexpensive. More complicated web sites that are backed by a large database may require a dedicated server. In either case you want your web server to be available as near 100% of the time as possible and you want it to be secure. |
